About Cybernalia

Cybernalia is our annual Rite of Spring. It’s our own Geek holiday. We’ve been doing this party since 2001. Every year in Spring a group of us host this 3-ring-circus event in a welding studio. While the band or DJ plays, a wide variety of partygoers dance, drink, bash, burn out nonworking computers and appliances.

The creative team of Iron Skull and Empty Skull perform feats of fire with their Earthmelter machine. They have hacked and rewired old arc welding equipment to produce erratic and blazing effects for a protective-eyeshaded audience. Outside the welding room we dance and show our art and original videos. There’s lots of great snacks and Margaritas. Cybernalians relax in a comfortable chill-out room. At the Fresh-Squeezed Poetry tent, they can get custom poems, composed on the spot, suitable for framing. At midnight we enact fake rituals evoking B movies, horror and sci fi themes. Cybernalia celebrates the forces of electricity, the cycles of earth’s creation and destruction.
